Pakistan Eliminated From T20 World Cup 2024: USA have qualified for the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 after their match against Ireland was called off on June 14 (Friday) due to a wet outfield and subsequent rain. This result also officially knocks last edition's runners-up, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan, out of this year's T20 World Cup. Pakistan needed Ireland to win against the USA to have a chance to qualify by defeating Ireland in their next match. However, the weather played spoilsport, and the 2010 T20 World Cup winners are eliminated from the marquee tournament.

With no play possible in the USA vs IRE T20 World Cup 2024 match, both teams shared one point each, taking co-hosts USA to 5 points and securing their place in the Super 8s. Even if Pakistan win their match against Ireland on Sunday, they can only reach a maximum of 4 points. Pakistan's loss to USA in their opening game of the T20 World Cup 2024 really hurt them as it was a surprising result given their stature in world cricket. A loss to arch-rivals India in their next match didn't help their cause either.

USA Script History As They Qualify For Super 8s In Maiden T20 World Cup Appearance

Meanwhile, USA made history by becoming the first team to qualify for the Super 8 stage in their maiden appearance. They have put up impressive performances in this edition of the T20 World Cup as they defeated Pakistan in the Super Over and also gave India a tough fight before losing. USA's qualification for the Super 8 stage marks the seventh occasion of an associate team progressing from the Group Stage to the Super Stage (8/10/12) in T20 World Cups, following in the footsteps of Ireland (2009), Netherlands (2014), Afghanistan (2016), Namibia (2021), Scotland (2021) and the Netherlands (2022).

The USA vs IRE match's chances were slim as Lauderhill, Florida, experienced a tropical thunderstorm causing incessant rain and flash flooding. Earlier in the tournament, the only game scheduled at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground between Sri Lanka and Nepal was also abandoned due to rain, contributing to Sri Lanka's elimination from Super 8 contention.
