Suryakumar Yadav did not have a memorable outing in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament against the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) XI in Coimbatore. The right-handed batter was plying his trade for Mumbai and was playing under Sarfaraz Khan along with the likes of Shreyas Iyer. While he could not make much of an impact with the bat scoring 30, to make matters worse he picked up an injury while fielding that has put a question mark over when he would be able to return to the cricket field.

As far as the Mumbai side is concerned, the entire team was bundled out for 156 after TNCA XI made 379. In the second innings too, TNCA amassed 286, leaving Mumbai a massive target of 510 runs. But when Suryakumar was declared "absent hurt", it was clear that his match came to an early end, leaving doubts over his participation in the Duleep Trophy opener starting on September 5.

Notably, the four-day red-ball matches are important for Suryakumar as India's T20I captain as he looks to make a statement and make a space for himself in the Indian Test setup. For now, he is only a one-format player with chief selector Ajit Agarkar making it clear in a press conference after the India squads were announced for the Sri Lanka series that the 33-year-old was not considered for the ODIs.

Will Suryakumar Yadav Be Fit In Time To Play IND vs BAN T20Is?

While the level of seriousness of Suryakumar's injury is not yet known, it is unlikely that he will be missing the Bangladesh T20Is due to this injury. Not only did the inury looked minor, the T20I leg of the Bangladesh series starts on October 6, giving him enough time to recover. There is no official confirmation on that either. The squad for the home Test and T20I series against Bangladesh has not been announced yet.
