Planning for life after Ab de Villiers, South Africa named a strong squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka scheduled to take place next month.

Dale Steyn makes a much-awaited return to the 15-member squad and Thenuis de Bruyn getting a call up as de Villiers replacement.

South Africa has also added Tabraiz Shamsi and uncapped Shaun Von Berg for the two-match series.

After making his comeback in the Proteas side, Steyn wants to play more Test Cricket for his country and aims to take 500 test wickets before settling down and calling it time.

"I want to achieve certain things in my career. A hundred Test matches would be amazing and 500 wickets would be incredible,” he told ESPNcricinfo.

He is just a couple of wickets away from equaling his country’s cricket legend Shaun Pollock’s record of 421 wickets. He did confess that if his team will not need him anymore, he will consider other options of the game.

Steyn is 35 and thinks that he can push himself till 39 before finally moving towards county cricket.

"It would be amazing to play in the World Cup. But you have to play white-ball cricket to be good at white-ball cricket. Hopefully I can get some white-ball games this year leading into December and put my hand up for the spot in that World Cup team next year,” he said.
