Sri Lanka defeated India by 110 runs in the third India vs Sri Lanka ODI at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 7 (Wednesday). With the win, Sri Lanka won the series 2-0. On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir’s coaching tenure for India in the ODIs began on a disappointing note with the loss. This also marked the first ODI series win for the Island Nation over India in 27 years.
Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Sri Lankan openers Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando forged a good first-wicket partnership for 89 runs before Nissanka lost his wicket for 45 runs to India’s Axar Patel in the 20th over.

Sri Lanka’s number three batter Kusal Mendis joined Fernando for another solid partnership and looked set to be posting a total well in excess of 300 but Fernando lost his wicket just four runs short of a century.
From then on, Sri Lanka lost continuous wickets as the Indian spinners found their mojo and made the ball to talk on the Colombo wicket. Sri Lanka were reduced to 199-6 in the 44th over but efforts from Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis took their total to 248-7 in 50 overs.

Chasing 249, India faced a rocky start as they lost Shubman Gill early, who departed for just six runs. Rohit Sharma tried continuing despite an early wicket but fell to Dunith Wellalage after making 35 runs. Wellalage continued to trouble the Indian batters and scalped the wickets of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, and helped Sri Lanka to get India all out at just 138 runs.
