Former Indian skipper and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly turned a year older on Wednesday to celebrate his 48th birthday. Fans, fellow cricketers and the iconic cricketer's family members extended their greetings to 'Dada' on social media.


Ganguly is best remembered in Indian cricket for bringing about a complete transformation in how the team played matches against formidable opponents while touring abroad. It was under Ganguly's captaincy that the sub continent tigers started pulling off notable wins on foreign soil against the top quality sides of that era like Australia and England.

Ganguly is also hailed as one of India's most successful openers in limited overs cricket courtesy his stellar exploits while opening the batting with 'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar. The lethal opening duo scored over 6000 runs  to become the most successful opening duo in ODI cricket.

In a glittering career spanning almost 15 years, Ganguly scored 18,575 international runs. He is the 12th highest run-scorer of all time in international cricket history. Ganguly is the third highest run geter for Indian in ODIs with 11,363 runs in 311 ODIs. He notched up 22 centuries and 72 half-centuries in a highly fruitful ODI career.

Ganguly is currently serving as the 39th president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the national governing body for cricket in India. Before being elected to the post, he served as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal, the governing body of cricket in West Bengal.
