The Ajit Agarkar-led senior selection committee announced a 17-member Team India squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 set to begin on August 30. The squad was announced on Monday (August 21) from the National Capital in New Delhi. India will begin their Asia Cup campaign with a clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium. While there was a lot of anticipation for the squad announcement, there was a major confusion over Shubman Gill's selection in the side.
Moments before the squad was actually announced by Agarkar at the press conference, the broadcasters actually named the squad on their live show. However, there was no Gill in that team leading to a shock reaction from the panel on the show which including Sunil Joshi and Sanjay Bangar. But when Agarkar did announce the squad at the presser, Gill's name was including.
