Coach of India cricketer Sneh Rana, who also happens to be a former office bearer of the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU), has reportedly been booked by Dehradun Police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The step has been taken by the law-enforcing agency after a leaked audio clip in which, Narendra Shah, can be heard having an obscene conversation with a girl cricketer.
It is being learnt that Shah reportedly trid to commit suicide by posioning himself at his residence after the leaked conversation and has been admitted at the Doon College and Hospital in Dehradun. Shah has already been removed as the co-convenor of the women's cricket in CAU but remains in postion, as of now, as the secretary of Chamoli district cricket association.
A report carried by HT has claimed that the girl in question is a minor from the Chamoli district and studies in an educational institution apart from cricket training in Dehradun. As per other report, she is a class 10 student.
The same report has claimed that the girl cricketer or her family hasn't registered an official complaint against Shah and a further action will be taken against Shah, who is currently on Ventilator after attempting suicide, if any such complaint is received following an enquiry. At the moment, Shah isn't in a condition to give any statement to the police and nor has his wife been able to provide any information to the police officers.
Among Shah's most famous cricketing disciples is Sneh Rana who has represented India at the highest level in all the three formats of the game, playing 22 ODIs, 25 T20Is and a Test match to date. The spin-bowling all-rounder has taken 24 wickets apiece in the white-ball formats, while scalping 4 wickets in the longest format.
She led the Gujarat Giants in Women's Premier League in absence of Beth Mooney who was ruled out after picking up an injury in the first match of the competition.
