ICC recently revealed that it will implement a smart replay system for Women's T20 World Cup 2024, making this the first time the organization will use this technology in any of its events. The technology has been previously used in IPL and The Hundred.

"The coverage will feature a minimum of 28 cameras at every game, and will be complemented by a variety of analytical and visual enhancements. The Decision Review System (DRS) will also be available at all matches, with a Hawk-Eye Smart Replay System in place that enables the TV umpire to instantly review synchronized multi-angle footage for accurate decision-making," ICC stated in a release.

What is Smart Replay System?

The smart replay system will aid umpires in making decisions during ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. It features eight Hawk Eye cameras positioned around the stadium and two high-speed Hawk Eye cameras, which will provide essential support for the umpires.

The new stumping system will equip TV umpires with tri-vision capabilities, allowing them to view footage from both front-on and side-on cameras in one frame. Operating at approximately 300 frames per second, Hawk-Eye cameras will help umpires make faster and more accurate decisions. This technology was first introduced in England's League, The Hundred, and was then used in IPL 2024.

Women's T20 World Cup 2024 will feature afternoon matches starting at 3:30 PM and evening matches beginning at 7:00 PM. The tournament kicks off today, October 3, and runs through the final match on October 20.
