After registering the biggest win in the first Test played against West Indies in the Rajkot, Virat Kohli praised Mumbai's young player Prithvi Shaw and spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. This is India's 100th victory on the home soil.
Soon after winning against the Windies by an innings and 272, leading the 2-match Test series by 1-0 , Kohli said that Shaw was included in the Test team considering the amazing potential he attains.
The India skipper also shared his picture with Shaw on social media, in which he wrote, the best victory and the best performance by this young man.
Teenage sensation Prithvi Shaw announced his arrival in top-flight cricket by becoming the youngest Indian to score a Test century on debut, headlining the home team's march to 364 for four against West Indies on day one of the series-opener. After the match, Kohli said, “Delighted for Prithvi and Jaddu. Playing his first game, seeing him dominate – the guy (Shaw) showed he is different quality. That’s why he’s been pushed to the Test team. It is exciting to see from the captain’s perspective”.
“Jaddu as well – he has got important runs for us before and we wanted him to get three figures. We believe he can turn matches for us,” Kohli added.
Ravindra Jadeja, who made his maiden ton in the longest format of the game almost after a decade, had a memorable game. Skipper Kohli also praised the pace duo of Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav for putting the opposition under pressure. “If you see the first innings, the way Umesh and Shami ran into bowl; few wickets with the new ball and you can put the opposition under pressure. Shami took wickets on a pitch that was offering nothing.”
