Star India batters Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan achieved new career-high ratings in the latest ICC Men's ODI rankings released on Wednesday (September 6). While Kishan has played one innings so far at the Asia Cup 2023, his knock was enough to leave fans and pundits impressed. Coming to bat in a pressure situation in India's opening game of the continental tournament against Pakistan and batting for the first time at the number 5 slot, Kishan played a counter-attacking knock.

The left-handed batter scored 82 off 81 in an innings which could perhaps make him the team's preferred wicketkeeper-batter heading into the ODI World Cup even when KL Rahul becomes available for selection, given that he provides a left-handed option in the batting order. Gill, on the other hand, was far from his fluent best in the match against Pakistan and managed 10 off 32 deliveries but made amends in the very next game against Nepal as he scored an unbeaten 67 off 62.

While the IND vs PAK match ended without a result with rain making no play possible in the second half of the match, Gill's contribution came in a winning cause as India beat Nepal by 10 wickets to seal a place for themselves in the Super Four. In the latest ICC Men's ODI Rankings, Gill has moved to the number 3 position, closing in on the Babar Azam who continues to sit at the number 1 position. The number 2, place, meanwhile is occupied by South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen.

While Gill currently has 750 rating points, Babar has 882 points with Van der Dussen sitting in the middle with 777 points. Even though Kishan did make an improvement in his ratings, he is still a bit far behind and sits at the 24th place with 624 points. Virat Kohli (695 points) and Rohit Sharma (690) are the other Indian batting stars in the top 25 and they find themselves at the 10th and the 11th place respectively.
