Shubman Gill in India vs Pakistan: Star India opener Shubman Gill, who is on the road to recovery after testing positive for dengue a few days ago, will reportedly fly to Ahmedabad from Chennai today for high-octane India vs Pakistan ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match on October 14 (Saturday), News18 Cricketnext reported. As per the report, Shubman will be under BCCI's medical team supervision and will continue his recovery process in Ahmedabad. Shubman Gill has already missed first two matches of ODI World Cup 2023 due to dengue and there are doubts whether the prolific opener will be available for selection for the important ICC Cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan, this Saturday.
“Gill will be travelling to Ahmedabad from Chennai today in a commercial flight. He will continue with recovery and rest there, under the watch of BCCI medical team,” a source close to developments told News18 Cricketnext.
The BCCI official denied reports suggesting that the Indian team management is seeking Shubman Gill's replacement in India's ODI World Cup 2023 squad. The official also said that it is highly unlikely that Gill will take part in India vs Pakistan World Cup match on October 14.
"Shubman Gill will be given all the time to recover and regain match fitness. There is no thought of seeking or discussing replacements at this stage as the management considers him a vital cog in the set- up. Gill is already showing positive signs and is likely to make a return soon," the BCCI official told the publication.
"Look at what Australia are doing with Travis Head. He is injured but they haven't ruled him out or sought a replacement. Every chance right now is given to Head to make that return. India too are likely to follow a similar approach when it comes to Gill. He has been our one of the most consistent performers in the last year or so," added the official.
