Shreyas Iyer is all set to make a return to competitive cricket in Asia Cup 2023. While the continental tournament has gotten underway with the match between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan on August 30 (Wednesday), India will play their first match on September 2 (Saturday) which will be a high-voltage game against Pakistan. Meanwhile, August 30 also happens to be Raksha Bandhan, a festival dedicated to the bond between brother and sister.
Before the Kolkata Knight Riders star's comeback to international cricket, Shreyas Iyer's sister Shresta shared a reel on Instagram on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. In the video the banter between the two siblings is evident. She accompanied the video with a heartfelt caption.
"Happy Rakshabandhan @shreyasiyer96 ❤️🌹 I want to start by saying that you are one of the most important people in my life . I’m so proud to have a brother like you not just for what you’ve accomplished, but for who you are," she wrote.
"For me , it is only your happiness and success that matters. Thank you for always being there for me ❤️ I couldn’t have asked for a better brother than you ! I love you 🌹 🧿 And I miss you 💕," she added.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer is likely to slot in the crucial number 4 position in India's middle-order. The right-handed batter hasn't played since the Test series against Australia at home earlier this year and was even ruled out of the entire IPL. In his absence, it was Nitish Rana who led KKR. The two-time champions finished seventh on the ten-team table in IPL 2023 with 12 points from 14 matches. If Iyer is fit and available, he is likely to regain his place as the captain of the side next year.
