Australian legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne has been included in the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) World Cricket Committee. He will replace Australia's former wicketkeeper Road Marsh, who resigned from his post after six years. The committee consists of umpires and former and current players that can propose changes in the laws of the game for its betterment.
"It is an honour to have been asked to be a member," said Warne, who picked up 708 wickets in 145 Tests.
"It is an extremely exciting time for cricket and I hope that I will have plenty to offer in discussion and debate."
Established in 2006, MCC is a world cricket committee - meets twice a year to discuss on issues regarding the sport. It is the custodian of the laws and spirit of the game.
The panel of Marylebone Cricket Committee (MCC) includes Sourav Ganguly, Kumar Sangakara, Ricky Ponting, Ian Bishop and Brendon McCullum. Apart from this, New Zealand's Suzy Bates is also among the female players.
Chairman Mike Gatting said,"We're delighted to welcome Shane on to the committee," The former England was famously dismissed by Warne's first delivery in Ashes cricket in 1993, popularly known as "ball of the century".
"Obviously his profile in the world game is as big as they come and, with his extensive experience, I am sure he will offer great insights into many different facets of the game."
