Shakib Al Hasan, the star Bangladesh all-rounder, took to social media to issue an apology to the people of Bangladesh for remaining silent over the protests that were carried out in the country which eventually led to the fall of the Awami League-led government, in which Shakib was a member of parliament (MP). He also offered condolences to those who lost their lives during the political turmoil that Bangladesh suffered from.
Notably, Shakib Al Hasan also expressed his desire to play his last international match for Bangladesh in front of the home crowd, something that seemed like a distant dream before his public apology.

Bangladesh take on South Africa in the 1st Test of the two-match series,commencing from October 21.
"At first, I respectfully remember all the students who sacrificed their lives or were injured while leading the anti-discrimination student movement. I offer my deepest respect and condolences to them and their families. Although no sacrifice can ever fully compensate for the loss of loved ones, the pain of losing a child or a brother is irreplaceable," Shakib wrote in his official Facebook post on October 9 (Wednesday).
"For those of you who felt hurt or disappointed by my silence during this critical time, I sincerely apologies acknowledging your feelings. If I were in your position, perhaps I would have felt the same way," he added.

Shakib also announced that his upcoming match will be his last and expressed a desire to say farewell with his supporters by his side.
"You all know that I will soon be playing my last match… I want to say goodbye with all of you around. At the moment of farewell, I want to shake hands with those whose applause compelled me to play better. I want to meet the eyes of those who cheered in joy when I played well and whose eyes welled up with tears when I did not. I believe that at this farewell moment, you will all be with me. Together, we will close the story that, in truth, stars not me, but all of you."
