Pakistan all-rounder who plays for Multan Sultans in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), Shahid Afridi has been ruled out of the remaining PSL that is scheduled to be played in the UAE. Afridi has been replaced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s left-arm-spinner Asif Afridi who would be joining the Sultans squad in UAE.
"While training for the remainder of the HBL Pakistan Super League 6, I felt lower back pain and had to consult a doctor. Unfortunately, I have been advised to rest and can no longer accompany my team Multan Sultans for the Abu Dhabi-leg," said Afridi.
Shahid Afridi has had a long and elusive career. For someone who did his international debut in 1996, it takes something special to be still playing cricket in 2021. However, many believe that PSL 6 was Afridi's last stint as a professional cricket player. He played his last T20I in 2018 but has been playing for various leagues around the world.
So, was PSL 6 the last time we saw Lala Afridi swinging his bat? We will have to wait to find out as Afridi has a knack for surprising people.
“I am disappointed that I would be sitting out of the tournament, but my best wishes, support, and prayers are with the team to take the trophy,” concluded Afridi.
Many in international cricket believe that if there was a factory-made player for the T20 format, then it is Shahid Afridi. He has been bowling consistent spin bowling and also been hitting the ball pretty well even after all these years.
