While many on twitter claimed that Sarfaraz broke the protocol, the Pakistan skipper himself was unapologetic and was supported by some Indian fans as well.
India’s popular TV actress, Gauhar Khan took to Twitter to support Sarfaraz as she said, “He is representing his culture, n looking v handsome in that! Every human being has the right to wear what he does, with dignity n pride! But I guess u wouldn’t know anything about belonging or representing, as u have identity crisis urself!”
Noted Pakistani-born journalist Tarek Fatah had criticized the Pakistan skipper for choosing to wear traditional attire, he tweeted: “Guess who came dressed in his pyjamas? None other than the #Pakistan captain.” In another tweet, Fatah even taunted the Pakistan wicket-keeper-batsman saying he was surprised that the latter did not turn up in his “Lungi-Banyan-Topi costume”.
Sarfaraz Ahmed reacts to trolls and criticism:
Sarfaraz defended himself by revealing that he was trying to promote Pakistan’s national dress and was instructed by the PCB to do the same.
“The salwar kameez is our national dress and I got instructions from the board to do all these things so I tried to promote our national dress. I felt very proud that the other captains were wearing suits but I was wearing national dress,” Sarfaraz Ahmed had said before Pakistan’s World Cup-opener.
