Sanjay Manjrekar finds himself on the receiving end of criticism after a remark on live commentary. The former India cricketer turned pundit was one of the Indian commentators for  India's ICC Women's T20 World Cup opener against New Zealand in Dubai. While Manjrekar is already known for his candid nature, he made a remark which hasn't gone down too well with a section of the netizens.

When he was commentating in Hindi, there was a discussion on Munish Bali, the fielding coach of the women's team, someone who has previously worled with the U-19 men's team. When he was told that Bali has previously played for Punjab before turning to coaching as a career, the ex-Mumbai cricketer said: "Sorry, meine unko pehechana nahin. North ke players ke saath mere zyaada dhyaan nahin hota. (Sorry, I didn’t recognize him. I am not too aware of players from the North.)"

However, fans following the game were not too happy with Manjrekar's statement and lashed out at the commetator for being unaware about cricketers from different regions of India but also not knowing about the coaching staff of the Indian women's team. Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian team playing this T20 World Cup, is also from Punjab, the same state whose players Manjrekar said that he is unaware about.
