Colombo: Sri Lanka lost a three-match T20I series against England 3-0. The Island nation has not been able to win a single series in 2021, so far. SL lost to England in the 3rd T20I by 89 runs which is a huge margin in T20 cricket.

Former Sri Lankan legend, Sanath Jayasuriya has expressed his concern over the form that the Sri Lankan team currently is in. The former explosive opener, in a tweet wrote, "Very sad day for Sri Lankan cricket. The situation is critical. We need immediate measures to save cricket."

This is not the first time that Jayasuriya criticized the current Sri Lankan team. The Former captain had openly expressed his disappointment with the Sri Lankan team after their first series loss against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka cricket fans started a new hashtag on Twitter, which was #UnfollowCricketers. As SL was defeated badly after repeated changes in the team, the fans are annoyed at the performance of their national cricketers. Many boycotted the Facebook pages of vice-captain Kusal Mendis and opener Dhanushka Gunathilaka.

Sri Lanka will now play a three-match ODI series against England from 29 June.

Such a dismal performance by Sri Lanka, who once were the world champions in 1996 and then reached the finals consecutively in 2007 and 2011, is a rare sight. They changed the captain recently. Sri Lankan cricketers are not building a great reputation around their team. During South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka, when SL lost the series 0-2, some players were caught smoking, drinking and getting involved in all sought of 'objectionable activities'.
