Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India secured a convincing 24-run win over Australia in ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match on Thursday (June 27), securing their spot in the semi-finals of the tournament. India continues their unbeaten streak in the T20 World Cup, setting up a crucial semi-final clash against England.


Rohit Sharma breaks Virat Kohli's record


During ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against Australia in St Lucia on Thursday (June 27), Indian captain Rohit Sharma surpassed Virat Kohli to become the highest run-scorer for India in T20 Internationals. Rohit achieved this milestone while partnering with Rishabh Pant during his innings in IND vs AUS Super 8 match.

Rohit Sharma attained the milestone by surpassing Virat Kohli's record of 4,103 runs in T20 cricket. Kohli's innings was brief, scoring zero off five balls, while Rohit went on to score 41 runs off just 14 deliveries during IND vs AUS match.


Rohit's innings also helped him leapfrog Kohli's 57 to score the highest score by an Indian captain in T20 World Cups. The Indian captain (4165 runs in T20Is) also went past Pakistan captain Babar Azam (4145 runs) to become leading run-scorer in T20Is.


Rohit Sharma has so far accumulated 4,165 runs in T20 Internationals across 149 innings from 157 matches, showcasing an impressive strike rate of 140.75. His highest score remains an unbeaten 121.


Rohit Sharma first player in history to hit 200 sixes in T20Is


Rohit Sharma became the first player in history of T20 International format to hit 200 sixes. 


Rohit is followed by Martin Guptill from New Zealand with 173 sixes, Jos Buttler from England with 137, Glenn Maxwell from Australia with 133, and Nicholas Pooran from the West Indies with 132.
