Nearly two months have passed since India's triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024, but the celebrations continue.
On Wednesday (August 21), Rohit Sharma, after being honored as Men's International Cricketer of the Year at the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards, credited three cricket legends as the pillars of Indian cricket, attributing much of the national team's success in the T20 World Cup 2024 to their influence and support.
The senior opener praised former head coach Rahul Dravid, selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, and BCCI secretary Jay Shah, acknowledging their unwavering support in bringing out the best in the players. He credited their efforts as instrumental in India's triumph at the T20 World Cup.
"It was my dream to transform this team and not worry too much about the stats, the results, to make sure that we create that environment where people can go out there and play freely without thinking too much," Rohit said after being named men's international cricketer of the year at the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards.
"That is what was required. I got a lot of help from my three pillars, who are actually Mr Jay Shah, Mr Rahul Dravid (and the) chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar," he said.
India's triumph in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final was their second T20 World Cup victory since 2007, serving as a fitting farewell for T20 cricket legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who retired from the format after this historic win.
Yesterday, captain Rohit Sharma and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah visited the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai, bringing the World Cup trophy along to mark the occasion.
