India captain Rohit Sharma could not hold his emotions in check after debutant Sarfaraz Khan got run out while trying to run for his partner Ravindra Jadeja on 99. The Indian captain was visibly upset and disappointed and threw his cap away in frustration as Sarfaraz walked back for 62 off 66. For context, on the fifth delivery of the 82nd over, Sarfaraz responded to a call from Jadeja who seemed interested to take a single that would have got him to a hundred.

However, when Jadeja later realised that it was a tight run, he said no, a bit too late for Sarfaraz to get back into the crease. It was a direct hit at the non-striking end from Mark Wood, implying no chance whatsoever for Sarfaraz to make it within the mark on time. With Sarfaraz' fluent's innings coming to an anticlimactic end, Rohit's disheartened reaction has gone viral.

Ravindra Jadeja Eventually Brings Up His 4th Test Ton In IND vs ENG 3rd Test

Eventually, Jadeja did get to a hundred, his fourth in the longest format of the game. He remains unbeaten on 110 at the end of the first day's play. His innings along with captain Rohit's 131 and Sarfaraz's quickfire 62 off 66 meant India reached 326/4 at Stumps. Kuldeep Yadav will resume batting with Jadeja when the play commences on Day 2 after India decided to send him ahead of another debutant Dhruv Jurel.

Mark Wood was the pick of the bowlers for England, finishing with figures of 3/69 while also affecting the run out. Tom Hartley produced the other wicket to fall, getting rid of Rajat Patidar for 5 off 15. James Anderson, Joe Root and Rehan Ahmed were the other bowlers used but none tasted success.
