Rishabh Pant, the talented cricketer known primarily to be a wicketkeeper-batter, showcased a different skill during the Delhi Premier League T20 (DPL) opening match between the Purani Dilli 6 and the South Delhi Superstarz at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday (August 17). While he may not have played the most fluent of knocks in the tournamemt opener, scoring 35 off 32 balls, but that did not stop him from grabbing the limelight.


Notably, Pant-led Purani Dilli 6 succumbed to a 3-wicket defeat in this fixture. The team that went on to lose the match may have gone on to score 197/3 in their 20 overs but failed to defend the total as the South Delhi Superstars chased down the target with 5 balls to go. Ayush Badoni, the South Delhi skipper, scored 57 with Priyansh Arya also chipping in with 57, helping the side get to their target with ease.

When the result seemed a certainty with South Delhi needing 1 run to win off 6 balls, Rishabh Pant thought of experiementing and brought himself on for a very rare sight on the cricket field. Given that Pant is a wicketkeeper, this is not an everyday visual that Pant is seen rolling his arms over. However, in the only ball that he bowled in the match, Pant turned to leg-spin and seemed to have a Shane Warne-like action.






Not The First Time Rishabh Pant Has Bowled In His Career


Notably, this is not the first time that Rishabh Pant has bowled in his career. Pant even has a first-class wicket to his name, averaging 9. However, it was not an everyday sight either with the left-handed batter known majorly for his stroke-making and glovework. This was the first time that Pant was in action since the conclusion of the India-Sri Lanka series.

Team India's next international assignment is the two-match Test series against Bangladesh which begins on September 19. While the opening Test match will be played in Bengaluru, the second Test is slated to be held at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
