Ace Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been nominated for the prestigious Arjuna Award by the selection committee on Saturday. The committee also picked 18 other sportspersons for this honour, woman cricketer Poonam Yadav, track and field stars Tejinder Pal Singh Toor, Mohammed Anas and Swapna Barman, footballer Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, hockey player Chinglensana Singh Kangujam and shooter Anjum Moudgil.


Jadeja has a prolific career on the field so far. Having played 156 ODIs, 42 T20Is and 41 Tests for India, he has scored 2128, 135 and 1485 runs in three formats respectively. He also has 178 wickets in ODIs, 192 in Tests and 32 in T20Is under his belt.

In the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2019, Jadeja almost cruised India into the finals but his fighting fifty went in vain as India were defeated by New Zealand in the semis.

The panel also nominated three names for the Dronacharya Award, including former badminton star Vimal Kumar, and three for the Dronacharya Award (lifetime category).

Paralympics silver medalist Deepa Malik was nominated for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award along with Asian and Commonwealth Games champion wrestler Bajrang Punia.

As per guidelines, to be eligible for the award, a sportsperson should not only have had good performance consistently for the previous four years at the international level with excellence for the year for which the Award is recommended, but should also have shown qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline.
