Afghanistan’s ace spinner Rashid Khan is eyeing an amazing world record which no bowler has ever set till date. The youngster is on his way to becoming the first cricketer to scalp 100 T20 wickets in a calendar year. In the Big Bash League (BBL) 2019 opener, he picked up 3 wickets, thus taking his tally to 92 for the calendar year.

Rashid’s team Adelaide Striker is scheduled to play three more games in the ongoing BBL before the year ends. Hence, he is on track to set a unique benchmark. The 20-year-old has already broken the previous record of most T20 scalps in a year which was held by DJ Bravo with 87 wickets in 2016.

The Afghanistan spinner ended up with the figures of 3/19 in Adelaide’s opening match against Brisbane Heat on Wednesday after which he received massive applauds from teammates and fans.

“He’s really smart. He's obviously got the skills, we all know that, but I think he's got a lot between the ears. He knows how he's going to get batters out — he analyses them pretty quickly out in the middle, he analyses the wicket, and he knows what's going to be effective,” Carey said about the Afghan leg-spinner after the game.

He is currently the no.1 ranked bowler in T20s on the ICC rankings.
