A depleted Punjab side received a big boost in the form of Yuvraj Singh ahead of their next Ranji Trophy encounter against New Delhi at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium starting on Wednesday.

Yuvraj, who was ignored for the first two matches of the season is set to make a comeback on Wednesday. The decision is believed to have been triggered after Punjab conceded first innings lead in both their matches against Andhra and Madhya Pradesh and are currently standing at eighth position in the Elite Group B.

Yuvraj batted freely in the nets, looking in fine touch before the match against Delhi, reported Sportstar. The swashbuckling left-hander will also play the next two matches against Himachal Pradesh (Dec 6-9) and Tamil Nadu (Dec 14-17) in Mohali.

The Ranji Trophy provides another opportunity to Yuvraj to silence his critics. A week earlier, Yuvraj was released Kings XI Punjab for IPL 2019. With auctions set to take place in the third week of December, Yuvraj would look to prove his fitness an form to yet again attract the bidders like he has been doing in all the previous seasons.

Coming back to the Punjab vs Delhi match. While Punjab were boosted with Yuvraj’s return, they will miss the services of talented young batsman Shubman Gill, who is in New Zealand with the India A squad.

Gill scored the fifties in both innings against Andhra.
