The upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final featuring India against either Australia or South Africa on November 19 (Sunday) at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium could potentially conclude Rahul Dravid's tenure as the head coach of the Indian team, as his existing contract is nearing its end.

Dravid assumed leadership of the national team after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021, taking on a two-year contract that encompassed key tournaments like the 2022 T20 World Cup, the 2021–23 WTC Cycle, and the ongoing 2023 World Cup. The culmination of the World Cup final marks the conclusion of Dravid's current contract.

As per a report by Cricbuzz, there hasn't been any discussion between the BCCI and Dravid regarding a contract renewal. While there were reservations about Dravid within the Indian cricket governing body, the team's exceptional performance in the tournament might prompt an extension offer. However, it remains uncertain whether Dravid intends to continue in the coaching role after his two-year tenure. The report also mentions that extensions for the support staff seem likely irrespective of Dravid's decision on continuing as the head coach.

VVS Laxman Likely To Fill In As Head Coach For IND vs AUS 5-Match T20I Series: Report

India are scheduled to engage in a five-match T20I series against Australia shortly after the World Cup final, possibly with VVS Laxman, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) director, overseeing the team temporarily until a permanent head coach is confirmed. Following the Australia series, India is slated to tour South Africa for a series of three ODIs, T20Is, and two Test matches.

Before assuming the role of the senior men's Indian team's head coach, Dravid served as the coach for India-A and U-19 teams, along with being the director of the NCA.

Coming to the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, India have showcased excellent form having won 10 consecutive matches and placing themselves into the final of the tournament. In their recent clash, they defeated New Zealand by 70 runs in the semi-final contest at Mumbai’s Wankhede.
