Former India captain Virat Kohli, who has gone on record multiple times admitting that he is a fan of the footballer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, has taken a dig at the critics of the ex-Manchester United forward. Kohli's statement comes after the 37-year-old football superstar scored a brace on his debut in Saudi Arabia while playing for Saudi All Stars XI against Lionel Messi's Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

"Still doing it at the highest level at 38. The football experts sitting and criticising him every week for attention and to be in the news are conveniently quiet now that he's put in this kind of performance against one of the top clubs in the world. And he was apparently finished," Kohli wrote in his Instagram story.

Despite Ronaldo's Man of the Match performance, it was PSG who ended up winning the goal-scoring feast 5 goals to 4. Notably, this was the first match where Ronaldo and Messi faced off since December 2020.

As far as Kohli is concerned, the right-handed batter has hit a purple patch in international cricket after a prolonged period where runs deserted him. However, Kohli seems to have found his missing mojo back and has been in top form since the last quarter of 2022 and has started off 2023 in fine fashion already.

He is currently in Raipur with Team India where the Men in Blue will take on New Zealand in the second ODI of the three-match series on Saturday (January 21, 2023). The hosts are 1-0 up in the series having beaten the Kiwis by 12 runs in the series opener at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday. While Kohli failed in this match, the match will be etched in history books for Shubman Gill who scored a record-breaking double hundred, becoming the youngest to achieve that milestone in One Day Internationals.
