Praveen Kumar, the former India fast bowler, narrowly escaped a horror car creash near the commissioner’s residence in Meerut on Tuesday night. Initial reports have suggested that the former cricketer's car was hit by a speeding canter. The police reached the spot and arrested the accused canter driver. Praveen was in his Land Rover Defender with his son and was coming from Pandav Nagar area which is when he met with the accident.
It is being reported that as soon as Praveen reached near the Commissioner’s residence, a speeding canter which was coming from the front, hit his car. Even though Praveen's vehicle was damaged, fortunately the former Uttar Pradesh swing bowler and his son escaped unhurt. Post the accident, a crowd of people gathered at the spot of the incident and got hold of the driver before police took charge.
SP City Piyush Kumar has given a statement confirming that the canter driver has ben detained. Meanwhile, the circle officer (CO) corroborated that both the 36-year-old former speedster as well as his son are unhurt. It is pertinent to note that this is not the first time Praveen has been involved in a car accident. In 2007 too, the former India pacer had fallen from an Open Jeep.
Talking about Praveen's interanational cricket career, the ex-India seamer represented the country in all the three formats of the game. He was a vital cog in the Indian side from 2007 to 2011 and could have been a World Cup winner had he not faced injury concerns. He was replaced by S Sreesanth in the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian contingent.
The ODI format is the one for which Praveen is best remembered for as he scalped 77 wickets from 68 ODIs, with arguably his most impressive performance in the international cricket circuit coming in the final of the 2007-08 CB Series. Praveen last played for India in 2012.
