Suryakumar Yadav yet again had a great day at the office on Sunday when he played a knock of 61 in just 25 deliveries against Zimbabwe. This is his third fifty of the tournament.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri spoke to Surya and asked about the ramp shot that he played over a deep fine leg for a maximum. Surya in reply to that said,
"I mean you got to understand what the bowler is going to bowl at that time. That is a little predetermined at that moment. I have practiced the stroke a lot when I used to play a lot of rubber-ball cricket. So, you got to be thinking what the bowler is thinking at that time.
"If the field is in I just back myself to go, there," Suryakumar said.
Shastri then asked him about the strength that is needed in the wrists to play a ramp shot.
"You got to know how long is the boundary behind. When I stand there I feel it is just 60-65 metres. With the pace of the ball I just try and time it and take it on the sweet spot of the bat and if it hits it, it goes all the way."
Earlier, ahead of the semi-final match, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid talked about changes that team management will consider according to the conditions. He said, “It was, again, a different kind of wicket, and it was played at Adelaide, as well. I can’t sit here now just after a game and predict what’s going to happen there. We’ll have a couple of days; we’ll go and have a look at that wicket and see what we think it might do. Of course, if it’s slow we’ll play according to those situations. If we think it might play differently, then we’ll have to put up a squad to match that."
India will be playing against England in the second semifinal at Adelaide on Thursday.
