Legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has joined the Australian backroom staff of head coach Justin Langer for the high-voltage England tour.
Ponting was due in England to commentate for the limited-overs series against the 2019 World Cup hosts England. But, Wednesday’s announcement will see him return to pair up with Langer, again after they combined to coach Australia’s T20 squad in their home soil against Sri Lanka in 2017.
The series will feature five-match ODI series and a lone T20 encounter.
Ponting also assisted former Australia head coach Darren Lehmann, who quit following the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa in March, for the Twenty20 tri-series against England and New Zealand earlier this year.
More recently, the 43-year-old has coached the Delhi Daredevils in this year's edition of the Indian Premier League.
Ponting will join up with the squad on June 10 and fit in his work with World Cup-holders Australia around his broadcasting duties.
