'It’s The Trophy I Haven’t Won': Pat Cummins Issues Stern Warning For India Before Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Pat Cummins, Australia's Test and ODI skipper, has expressed his desire to win the Border-Gavaskar trophy, slated to kick off later in the year.

Pat Cummins has been instrumental in Australia's recent dominance in ICC championships. Since 2023, Australia have secured the top honours in both the ODI and Test formats, currently holding the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship titles. However, one trophy has continued to slip through their grasp — the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Now, with a five-match Test series against India set to take place Down Under later this year, captain Pat Cummins has issued a stern warning to the Men in Blue.

Australia haven’t won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since the 2014-15 series on home soil. India, having triumphed in the last two series in Australia, are now aiming for a hat-trick of series victories this time around.

Cummins Backs Australia To Win Border-Gavaskar Trophy This Time Around

In an interview with Fox Cricket, Pat Cummins, who captained Australia to victory in ICC World Test Championship and ICC ODI World Cup in 2023, both against India in the finals, acknowledged that winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy remains an unfulfilled aspiration for many players in the current Australian squad. However, the right-arm pacer expressed confidence that his team can accomplish the task on home soil.

"It’s the trophy I haven’t won before … this is the one trophy a lot of our group haven’t ticked off. We’ve achieved some amazing things over the last few years as a Test group. You kind of back yourself to win every series at home. I think you need to try and be up there in the upper echelon of teams. That’s what lies ahead of us this summer," 31-year-old Cummins said.

Cummins acknowledged India as a strong team but emphasized that Australia is equally well-prepared for the challenge.

"They’re a really good side. We play them quite a lot, we know them really well, but we feel like we’re really well placed also," he added.

The highly anticipated Australia vs India Test series kicks off on November 22 at Optus Stadium in Perth followed by Tests in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
