Inzamam-Ul-Haq Offers To Resume Chief Selector Role If Cleared Of Allegations

The PCB confirmed that Inzamam made this decision to facilitate a transparent inquiry into the allegations.

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has expressed his willingness to resume his role as the chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team if he is found not guilty in an investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This investigation is related to alleged conflicts of interest in the team selection process.

Inzamam voluntarily stepped down from his position as chief selector on Monday, October 30. The PCB confirmed that Inzamam made this decision to facilitate a transparent inquiry into the allegations. As per a statement made by PCB Media on X (formerly Twitter), Inzamam stated, “I am stepping down from the post to offer the PCB the opportunity to conduct a transparent inquiry about the conflict of interest allegations raised in the media. If the committee finds me not guilty, I will resume my role as the chief selector.”

Inzamam sent his resignation letter to PCB chief Zaka Ashraf after Pakistan experienced a four-match losing streak in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

 ‘I Should Step Down And Let Them Conduct The Probe’

In an interview with SAMAA TV, Inzamam explained his decision to step down, saying, “I got a call that they had formed a five-member committee. We are cricketers and we are available all the time to serve the country. Since I am facing an inquiry, and as is the nature of my job, I should step down and let them conduct the probe."

The PCB has established a five-member committee to investigate the allegations of conflict of interest and will present its findings promptly.

The PCB's statement reads, "Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations in respect of conflict of interest reported in the media pertaining to the team selection process. The committee will submit its report and any recommendations to the PCB Management in an expeditious manner."

On the cricket front, Pakistan have been struggling in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, with four consecutive losses, placing them in sixth position in the points table. They are slated to square off against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata on Tuesday, October 31. A lot has to go Pakistan’s way for them to even hope of securing a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament, even if they win all their remaining fixtures.
