Pakistan cricket team faces a huge setback ahead of their T20 World Cup 2024 opening match against United States of America (USA) on Thursday (June 6) at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. All-rounder Wasim has sustained an injury and will miss PAK vs USA T20 World Cup 2024 match.

"Imad Wasim will not be available for selection for Thursday’s match as he has been advised rest by the PCB Medical Team," Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said.

The in-form left-arm spin all-rounder has been sidelined from Thursday's USA vs PAK group stage encounter due to a side strain.

Imad Wasim sat out Pakistan's fourth T20I match on May 30 due to discomfort in his right rib cage. As a precautionary measure, he has opted out of PAK vs USA T20 World Cup match on June 6, considering Pakistan's upcoming high-profile clash against arch-rivals India on Sunday (June 9) in New York. Pakistan are in Group A for T20 World Cup 2024 group stage matches, alongside India, Canada, USA and Ireland.

Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir have reversed their retirement decisions to aid Pakistan in their quest to win the prestigious T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. Since their triumph over India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, Pakistan cricket team have failed to secure an ICC championship.

35-year-old Imad Wasim grabbed the selectors' attention with his match-winning displays in the Pakistan Super League, notably playing a pivotal role in Islamabad United's championship victory in the tournament finale by claiming a five-wicket haul.

The left-arm spinner was included in the national team lineup during the T20 World Cup in 2021, where he claimed 6 wickets for the Men in Green across as many matches.
