Former wicket-keeper batsman Moin Khan pitted Pakistan as the favourites to clinch the 2019 ODI world in England.

Despite Pakistan’s disappointing outing in the recently-concluded Asia Cup, where they were comprehensively beaten by arch-rivals India on two occasions and once by Bangladesh in the Super 4 stages, Moin believes his side will have the edge because of the English conditions.

“I think Pakistan really has a good chance to clinch the title as conditions will be helpful for them in England,” the Express Tribune quoted Khan, as saying.

Khan was referring to Pakistan’s pace battery, which more often than not hides the shortcomings of their batting line-up. However, of late the scenario has changed, with the players like Imam Ul Haq and Fakhar Zaman coming up through the ranks.

Moin also backed under fire Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, saying that the captain’s performance will be crucial in bolstering Pakistan’s chances in the upcoming World Cup.

“Sarfraz is a wonderful player and a good leader. He has to perform well in the upcoming World Cup. His performance in the tournament will be crucial for the team,” Khan concluded.

The World Cup will take place in England between May 30 and July 14, next year.
