It was for the first time that the Lankans completed a series whitewash over their sub continent rivals in their own backyard.
Pakistan got off to the worst possible start after they lost in-form opener Fakhar Zaman to Kasun Rajitha on the first ball of their innings. Babar Azam and Haris Sohail then resurrected the Pakistani innings by stitching a 76 run partnership.
However, Lahiru Kumara sent back the well settled Babar Azam to the pavilion. Haris Sohail kept accumulating the runs from one end but just as he looked dangerous, he was stumped by Samarawickrama off the bowling off Wanindu Hasaranga. Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga then cast a web by dismissing skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asif Ali in quick succession.
There was a late flourish by Iftikhar Ahmed and Wahb Riaz towards the end of the innings but it was rather too late by then to cause an serious damage.
Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a competitive 147-run total against Pakistan. The batting efforts for Sri Lanka were led by debutant Oshada Fernando, who top scored with a belligerent 78 knock off just 48 deliveries.
Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was awarded the Man of the Series for his stellar bowling efforts, which saw him taking 3 for 21 in his 4 over spell.
