England speedster Ollie Robinson sustained a left ankle injury and there were doubts over his participation in the upcoming Ashes 2023. But then the scan reports have come and it clearly states that the pacer has not suffered any major blow and is fit to take part in the one-off Test against Ireland and also in the upcoming five-match Test series against Australia.
Earlier, the 29-year-old was representing Sussex in the ongoing County Championship and that is when he felt a little bit of a problem in his ankle and as a result, the England-based bowler felt soreness and was even spotted in crutches on Sunday. But the good news is the cricketer will recuperate soon.
Meanwhile, England and Wales Cricket Board also confirmed the same and said that Robinson will be joining the national team for the game against Ireland that is slated to take place on Thursday, June 1.
“Scan results have revealed no damage to the ankle and that Robinson will join up with the England men’s Test squad this weekend ahead of the LV= Insurance Test match against Ireland starting on Thursday, June 1 at Lord’s,” the statement read.
Since Jofra Archer is injured, Ollie will be playing a crucial role in the playing XI. According to reports, veteran pacer James Anderson is likely to take a break from the game against Ireland and will be focusing more on the Ashes. Also, Ben Stokes’ availability is not clear as the all-rounder was down with a knee injury while taking part in the IPL 2023. As per the reports, he is fit now but most likely he will also skip the Ireland match to keep himself ready for the Ashes.
England squad for only Test vs Ireland: Ben Stokes (captain), Ollie Pope (vice-captain), Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Dan Lawrence Jonny Bairstow (wkt), Chris Woakes, Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Mark Wood, Matty Potts, Jack Leach.
