PAK vs BAN HIGHLIGHTS: Bangladesh Lose By 7 Wickets To Get Knocked Out Of Semi-final Race
ODI World Cup 2023, PAK vs BAN HIGHLIGHTS: Pakistan's hopes are still dependent on result of other matches but Bangladesh are officially out of the semis equation.
So Bangladesh get eliminated from the race to the semis with that defeat to Pakistan. They only have 2 points from 7 matches and can no longer head to the final four stage. Meanwhile, Pakistan remain in contention of a place in the business end of the competition but not only will have to win their remaining matches against New Zealand and England but also hope for some of the other results to go their way. Pakistan pacers- Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Wasim and Haris Rauf took 8 of the 10 wickets before their opening stand of 128 more or less sealed a win for them, chasing 205. Fakhar Zaman, playing in place of Imam-ul-Haq top-scored with 81 and was adjudged the Player Of the Match.
PAK WIN by 7 wickets. Quite comprehensive from Pakistan in the end.
Another wicket down as Fakhar Zaman departs for 81. Swept from the southpaw but find the fielder. Third wicket for Bangladesh but the match has already slipped away, it looks like. PAK- 169/3 after 27.3 overs.
Babar Azam trying to go for the big shot is caught in the deep off Mehidy Hasan Miraz. But Pakistan well in control of this game. BAN- 160 /2 in 25.4 overs.
After 25 overs, Pakistan are 153/1. They need 52 runs from 25 overs.
Babar Azam has come in at 3. Pakistan, however, closing in on a win at the Eden Gardens.
Bangladesh finally have a breakthrough. Mehidy Hasan Miraz gets rid of Abdullah Shafique who departs for 68. PAK- 128/1 after 21.1 overs.
Time For Drinks after 15 overs. The phase of the match where Pakistan have completely dominated. Bangladesh have used six bowling options so far. None of them have delivered a wicket yet. PAK- 86/0. Fakhar Zaman- 45* off 46, Abdullah Shafique- 39* off 44.
Positive Start for Pakistan. Both the openers looking in great nick. Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman the openers in fine form and have taken the attack to the opposition. At the end of 14 overs, 84/0.
Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique out come the Pakistan Openers. Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam the new ball bowlers from either ends.
Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Wasim finished with three wickets apiece while Haris Rauf (2/36), Iftikhar Ahmed (1/44) and Usama Mir (1/66) were the other wicket-takers. The partnership between Mahmudullah (56 off 70) and Litton Das (45 off 64) was the brightest spot for Bangladesh as they added 79 runs off 89 balls for the fouth wicket but Pakistan bowlers came back to bowl them out in 45.1 overs. Shakib Al Hasan's 43 was the other significant contribution from a Bangladesh batter. We will be back with the chase.
Bangladesh are bowled out for 204 in 45.1 overs as Mohammad Wasim yorks Mustafizur to pick his third. They manage 204. Pakistan need 205 runs to win.
Nine wickets down now are Bangladesh as Taskin Ahmed departs. BAN- 201/9 after 43.3 Overs. Two wickets in the over from Mohammad Wasim.
Bangladesh innings nearing its end, one reckons. Mehidy Hasan Miraz departs after his off stump is uprooted by Mohammad Wasim. BAN- 200/8 after after 43.1 overs.
Losing Their Way In Middle Overs are Bangladesh. Shakib too has departed and BAN are 185/7 after 39.3 Overs. Haris Rauf the one who produced that wicket.
And another one goes down. This time it is Towhid Hridoy who hit a six and then edged one to the slips. So the wheels are coming off in this innings rather quicky. USama Mir the wicket-taker. BAN- 140/6 after 31.3 Overs.
Mahmudullah goes back for 56. Just the wicket Pakistan were after which is why probably Shaheen Shah Afridi was handed the ball and he has delivered big time. Coming in with the angle and then shaping away to hit the pad and onto the stumps and even a set Mahmudullah has no answer. BAN- 130/5 after 30.4 overs.
Fine Innings From Mahmudullah this who gets to yet another half-century in World Cup cricket but he has job at hand here if Bangladesh are to finish well.
The fall of the previous wicket has brought Shakib Al Hasan into the middle with Mahmudullah.
Pakistan have managed to break a 79-run stand for the fourth wicket and it is Iftikhar Ahmed who has broken the stand. He gets rid of Litton Das for 45 off 64 as a leading edge is gleefully accepted by Agha Salman. BAN- 102/4 after 20.5 overs.
Mohammad Wasim begins proceedings post the drinks interval and it's a maiden to begin with. BAN- 66/3 after 15 overs.
BAN: 66/3 after 14 overs. Mahmudullah- 25* off 26, Litton Das- 30* off 42.
Time for Usama Mir to roll his arms over.
Mohammad Wasim Jr has come in second change for Pakistan but it hasn't been an ideal start for him. Gives away 11 runs off his first. BAN- 48/3.
Mahmudullah, Das the two batters in a bid to rescue Bangladesh at the moment. While Shaheen and Rauf are continuing for Pakistan. After 9 overs, BAN- 36/3.
Just a boundary that came off the first ball from the bat of Litton of that Afridi over which were the only runs that came off it. BAN- 27/3 after 7 overs.
Rauf had conceded three boundaries already in his first over but he has picked up a wicket to end it and it's that of the experienced campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim. Out caught behind. Further misery for Bangladesh who are now 23/3 after 6 overs.
Time For Haris Rauf to come into the attack.
Shaheen to continue and so he rightfully should, given the way that he has bowled. Bangladesh in desperate need of a partnership here.
3 Runs Of Iftikhar's Second. After 4 overs, BAN- 9/2.
Shaheen follows a wicket maiden with an over where he concedes a single and gets another wicket. BAN- 6/2 after 3 overs.
Mushfiqur Rahim comes in at 4 after those early wickets.
Another one goes down and Shaheen Shah Afridi who just became the fastest to 100 ODI wickets, now has 101. Shanto causally played a flick off his pads but its aerial and an easy chance for forward square leg where Usama Mir takes an easy catch. Horror start for Bangladesh. BAN- 6/2 after 2.4 Overs.
A single and a boundary to end the second over. Shanto with the boundary off the last ball to get off the mark, just opened the face of the bat to find the fence once the ball beat short third. BAN- 5/1 after 2 overs.
WICKET MAIDEN to start the proceedings for Pakistan. Iftikhar Ahmed with the new ball in hand from the other end. Najmul Hossain Shanto is in at 3.
Pakistan have struck early. It's Shaheen Shah Afridi with the new ball who has done the damage with Tanzid getting across early and paying the price, getting out LBW. Umpire signalled it out and the decision remained the same on umpire's call even after the batter opted to review. BAN- 0/1 after 0.5 Overs.
Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan Open Innings For Bangladesh. It's Shaheen Shah Afridi with the new ball For Pakistan. Here we go.
Bangladesh (Playing XI): Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan(c), Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Mahmudullah, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam.
Pakistan (Playing XI): Abdullah Shafique, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam(c), Mohammad Rizwan(w), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Agha Salman, Shaheen Afridi, Usama Mir, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Haris Rauf.
Babar Azam: We would also like to bat first. There might be some swing in it early on because there is some moisture in it. Last match we were good in all three departments. There was some good energy. I am also waiting for a big innings, I will try to convert into a hundred. Three changes, Imam, Shadab and Nawaz out, Fakhar, Salman and Usama in.
Shakib Al Hasan: We will bat first, looks like a dry wicket, we played the last game here, it was slow and there was turn. We have nothing to lose, we have to play well in the first 10 overs and hopefully we can go from there. We haven’t been consistent enough, we have been doing bits and pieces but haven’t performed collectively and that has been disappointing. There isn’t much difference between in here and Dhaka in terms of culture so hopefully we will have some good support.
Bangladesh have won the toss and opted to bat first.

"We discussed about it, we had our team meetings, so we sat down, we talked about it, how can we overcome the situation we are in now, but we have to show it in action. Talk is cheap when it's not working. So, we'll do it at the ground so the action can take care of it and everyone can see it," Shakib al Hasan quoted on saying in the pre-match press conference on Monday.

Background
The Pakistan team will be locking horns with Bangladesh in match 31 of the 2023 World Cup at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday. Pakistan are standing at the seventh position in the points table, with just four points from six matches after having lost their last four games.
Bangladesh on the other hand are languishing at the ninth position with just one win from six games. Babar Azam team's chances of making it into the top four look bleak after their string of losses. As of now, Pakistan and Bangladesh have played against each other 38 times in one-dayers where the former are dominating with a 33-5 record.
Back during the 1999 World Cup, the Bangla Tigers shocked Pakistan by 62 runs in a low-scoring game in Northampton while Pakistan recorded an emphatic 94-run win at Lord’s in the 2019 edition.
