New Delhi: Nepal's rising spin bowler Sandeep Lamichhane has been accused of rape by a 17-year-old girl in a hotel room in Kathmandu, police said on Thursday. An arrest warrant has also been issued against him over alleged rape, said police as reported by news agency AFP. The teen-aged girl filed an FIR against Sandeep with the Kathmandu Police on Tuesday at the Police Circle Gaushala. Lamichhane is currently in the West Indies to participate in the Caribbean Premier League. While Kathmandu Police Office chief Ravindra Prasad Dhanuk has confirmed the complaint made against Sandeep, an investigation has been started after sending a medical checkup to the minor girl.
Lamichhane, who is one of the star players of Nepal cricket, also participates in Premier League cricket around the world. At the same time, he has played a total of 30 ODIs and 40 T20 International matches for his national team so far. For Nepal in the ODI format, Sandeep has taken 69 wickets at an economy rate of 4.03. At the same time, his performance in the T20 format has also been excellent.
In T20 Internationals, Lamichhane has taken 78 wickets in 40 matches for Nepal at an economy rate of 6.26. He is especially known for his economical bowling in this format. He has also got a chance to play in the Indian Premier League.
He is the only cricketer from Nepal who has been included in the draft of IPL and has also got a chance to play in this league. He made his debut in this league for Delhi Capitals in the year 2018. During this, he played for Delhi only for two seasons, in which he got a chance to play in 9 matches.
During his IPL season in 2018, he got a chance to play in only three matches, in which he took a total of five wickets. After this, in 2019, he got a chance to play in 6 matches in which he took a total of 8 wickets. In this way, in 9 matches of IPL career, he has taken a total of 13 wickets.
Apart from IPL, Lamichhane has appeared in Australia's Big Bash League, West Indies' Caribbean Premier League and Pakistan Super League.
