On Monday, Tamil Nadu batter Jagadeesan scored a double century in the ongoing Vijay Hazare. He played a knock of 277 runs off just 141 balls with the help of 25 fours and 15 sixes at a strike rate of 196.45. He achieved this feat in the match against Arunachal Pradesh where he set a new record for the highest-ever individual score in List A history.
The Indian batsman has shattered a 22-year-old record made by Alistair Brown of England who amassed 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002.
He also surpassed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s record of 264 which was the highest score by an Indian in the format. The wicket-keeper batter Jagadeesan built mammoth partnerships of 416 runs with his fellow opener Sai Sudharsan as he contributed with 154 off 102 with the help of 19 fours and two sixes.
Tamil Nadu batter Jagadeesan surpassed Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara to register the most number of consecutive centuries in the history of List A cricket. The batter accomplished this landmark during his side's match against Arunachal Pradesh at the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's top-class 50-over domestic cricket competition.
With this, he has left behind Kumar Sangakara, who had scored four consecutive centuries in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. He registered 105* against Bangladesh, 117* against England, 104 against Australia, and 124 against Scotland to finish with 541 runs in the tournament at an average of 108.20. He finished as second highest run-getter in the tournament.
In List A history, Tamil Nadu became the first team to get to 500 runs in an innings. They concluded their innings at 506/2 in 50 overs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bengaluru.
