New Delhi: Bangladesh’s hopes of avenging the Test defeat hit a roadblock as their premiere fast bowler Mustafizur Rahaman has been ruled out of the first ODI and appears doubtful for the remaining two.

Mustafizur, who is one of Bangladesh’s potent weapons, twisted his ankle during a training session on Saturday.

"Mustafizur twisted his ankle during warm-up before training. He won't play tomorrow," Minhajul Abedin, the Bangladesh chief selector and team manager, told The Daily Star.

"We can't tell yet if he will be available for the rest of the series. We'll know more after we go to Cape Town [for the second ODI in Paarl], we haven't done a scan yet," he added.

However, there was no clarity on the availability of opening batsman Tamim Iqbal, who was sidelined from the second Test due to a thigh injury.

Bangladesh were handed a 2-0 drubbing in the Test series and would look to bounce back in their favoured format with the first ODI on Sunday.
