After former India cricketer, Vinod Kambli’s wife Andrea alleged that he abused and thrashed her under the influence of alcohol, the Bandra police on Sunday reached Kambli’s residence to give notice of Section 41A of CrPC. On the basis of her complaint, an FIR was filed against the former cricketer.  The police asked Kambli to come to the police station in a day or two to record his statement.

The police currently know one aspect of the incident which Vinod Kambli's wife has told them. They will further investigate Vinod Kambli's wife's allegations and then will move ahead in the matter.

"Despite trying to pacify him, he abused me and my son for no reason. He charged at us. After hitting the cooking panhandle, he charged again with a bat. I managed to stop him before leaving with my son, and rushed to the hospital," Andrea has put on record in the FIR.

Based on the complaint of Kambli's wife, the Mumbai Police has registered a case against Vinod Kambli under sections 324 and 504 of the IPC.

Kambli's wife has alleged that he threw the handle of a cooking pan at her due to which she suffered a head injury. The incident took place between 1 pm and 1.30 pm on Friday when Kambli, allegedly in an inebriated state, reached his Bandra flat and abused his wife.

After this, he ran to the kitchen and took the handle of the cooking pan, and threw it at his wife. An officer of Bandra Police said that before coming to the police, Kambli's wife got herself treated at Bhabha Hospital.

Earlier, Kambli had been booked in drunken driving cases in 2022 by police. He and his wife had been accused of beating their maid also.

Previously, the former India player went to Mumbai Cricket Association for a job and he appealed to Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he will stop drinking alcohol immediately if the job requires him to do so. The former India batter even said that he drinks occasionally and is not an addict or a regular alcohol drinker.
