Star India pacer Mohammed Shami has been ordered by a Kolkata court to pay a monthly alimony of ₹1,30,000 to estranged wife Hasin Jahan in a domestic violence case. The sum of money will be divided into a personal alimony of ₹50,000 per month while the remaining amount of ₹80,000 will go as child allowance.
It is pertinent to note that Shami's estranged wife had accused him of domestic violence, even lodging complaint against the Indian cricketer and his elder brother Hasib Ahmad. She had levelled charges of infidelity and demand of dowry against them. While Shami has been ordered to pay a hefty amount, it is nowhere close to the original demand which was of ₹10,00,000 which was to be divided into a personal alimony of ₹7,00,000 and child allowance of ₹3,00,000.
I will go to the high court: Hasin Jahan
Despite getting the judgement in her favour, Jahan has said that she will appeal to a higher court as the monthly alimony of ₹1,30,000 will not be enough for her.
"Rs 50,000 is minimal for me so I have to challenge this. It’s true that the verdict is in my favour but I will go to the high court as the stipulated money for my maintenance is very less considering the income of Shami," Jahan was quoted as saying by News 18.
"Since I don’t have any financial support or earning, I only know how I arranged the money for so long. Thus, I deserve much more alimony for spending a quality life," she added.
Jahan's lawyer explained that as the speedster's income was Rs 7 crore for the financial year 2020-21 as per the income tax returns, ₹10,00,000 as monthly alimony was a reasonable demand.
On the other hand, Shami's lawyer stated that Jahan's plea of a monthly alimony of ₹10,00,000 wasn't justified as she herself draws home a paycheque with her modelling career.
