Pakistan cricket was dealt a major shock as three star players announced their retirements within two days, leaving fans and cricketing fraternity stunned. On Friday, all-rounder Imad Wasim, a key member of Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, revealed his decision to retire from international cricket.
Just hours later, veteran fast bowler Mohammad Aamir, another member of Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2024 team, followed suit, marking the end of an illustrious yet controversial career.
Adding to the heartbreak, left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Irfan—the tallest cricketer in history at 7 feet 1 inch—also announced his retirement. Irfan shared the news via social media, expressing heartfelt gratitude:
"I have decided to retire from international cricket. I want to thank my teammates and coaches from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for the love, enthusiasm, and unforgettable memories. I will continue to support and celebrate this game that has given me everything. Pakistan Zindabad."
Mohammad Irfan's Career Highlights:
Tests: 4 matches, 10 wickets (avg. 38.90), debut against South Africa in 2013.
ODIs: 60 matches, 83 wickets (avg. 30.71), including two four-wicket hauls.
T20Is: 22 matches, 16 wickets (economy 7.44), last appearance in 2019.
Irfan's imposing height and unique bowling style made him a formidable presence on the field, even though his international career was very short.
Punjab-born Mohammad Irfan made his T20I debut in 2012 against India at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Over his T20I career, he played 22 matches, taking 16 wickets with a commendable economy rate of 7.44. Irfan's last appearance in the format was against Australia in Canberra on November 5, 2019.
