Mitchell Johnson, the veteran Australian left-arm pacer, has said goodbye to the Big Bash League (BBL). He confirmed the same on Wednesday stating that he will continue playing domestic T20 series across the globe.
Johnson represented the Perth Scorchers in the last two seasons. His phenomenal performance with the ball played a crucial role for his team. He led his team to victory in the 2016-17 season where he ended up picking 1 wicket from four overs after leaking mere 13 runs. Scorchers chased down the target with ease and registered a nine-wicket win.
“The intensity and length of the BBL is just too much for someone who will be 37 at the start of the summer. Mitch has put his name up for the Emirates tournament in Dubai, but that is half the length of the BBL,” Sam Halvorsen, Johnson's manager, told The West Australian newspaper.
Johnson played a total 19 Big Bash games and has 20 wickets under his belt, at a strike rate of 22.2. His best performance of 3 for 3 which came against Melbourne Stars in the semi-final in 2016-17.
On the other hand, there is still no clarity about his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
