New Delhi: Cricket Australia have called in Glenn Maxwell as a cover for vice-captain David Warner, who suffered an injury scare during a practice session, earlier this week.
Warner faced a couple of deliveries on Tuesday before he twinged his neck during the fielding drill, which kept him out of the training session on Wednesday morning.
However, the star man is expected to play the Ashes opener in Brisbane on November 23.
Australian skipper Steve Smith believes Warner’s condition has improved overnight and he will be ready to take on the visitors at the Gabba on Thursday.
He's very confident and he says he'll be right to go," Smith told reporters ahead of Thursday's Ashes opener at the Gabba.
"He'll be OK. It's part and parcel of playing cricket. Guys have injuries every now and then and have little niggles.
"He's improved a fair bit over the last 24 hours and hopefully he can keep improving and be 100 percent at match time."
On the other hand, England have never won at the Gabba in last 31 years. while, Australia are unbeaten at the venue in 28 Tests.
