Mark Wood Breaks Own Record Of England's Fastest Over At Home Twice During ENG vs WI 2nd Test

ENG vs WI 2nd Test: Mark Wood broke his own record not once but twice during England's second Test against West Indies.

ENG vs WI 2nd Test: Mark Wood, the England speedster, produced a fiery spell of fast bowling in the England vs West Indies second Test match in Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Wood broke the fastest over ever bowled by an English speedster on home soil since the beginning of the ball-tracking era. So good was the 34-year-old that he broke the record not once but went on to better it himself a few minutes later. Wood started off with a 93.9mph-delivery.

He did not drop pace in that over and remained roundabout there with the first ball turning out to be the second-slowest delivery of the over, clocking a top speed of 96.5 mph. It was here that Sky Sports, the official broadcaster declared it to be the fastest over bowled by an England pacer at home since 2006 which is when such data started getting recorded. The average speed was recorded at 94.7mph.

In the very next over, Wood did not come down the 94mph-mark even once with the fastest ball at 95.1 mph. The broadcasters showed that Wood even went on to clock the 97 mph mark in the third over. The official social media handle of England then disclosed that his third over was, in fact, quicker than his first one, which meant Wood had bettered his own record set in the first over.

Who Held The Record Previously?

No surprises for guessing but the record previously belonged to Mark Wood himself. He had achived the same during the Lord's Test of the two-Test series against New Zealand in 2021. Wood got four overs in this record-shattering spell in which he conceded 11 runs. However, he was not able to get a wicket.
