India vs South Africa T20 World Cup Final: India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. With this Rohit Sharma became only the third Indian captain behind MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev to win an ICC Men's World Cup (ODI/T20I). While he had narrowly missed out on lifting the ODI World Cup trophy last year, this time around they found a way to snatch win from the jaws of defeat to emerge as the champions.

Virat Kohli was adjudged the Player Of the Match after his terrific knock in the final. India's batting star confirmed his T20I retirement soon after he got the prize, hinting that this was his last T20I match in Indian colours. It is fitting that Kohli finishes as a T20 World Cup champion.

Winners: India

Runners-up: South Africa

Player Of The Match (Final, T20 World Cup 2024): Virat Kohli

Player Of The Tournament (T20 World Cup 2024): Jasprit Bumrah

"This was my last T20 World Cup, and this is what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel you can't get a run, then things happen. God is great, and I got the job done for the team on the day it mattered. Now or never, last T20 for India, wanted to make the most of it. Wanted to lift the cup, wanted to respect the situation rather than force it. This was an open secret, it's time for the next generation to take over, some amazing players will take the team forward and keep the flag waving high," Kohli said after getting the Player Of the Match recognition.

Kohli also hinted that this this could be Rohit's final T20 World Cup as well when he was asked if he should be lifted by the team, he said that Rohit who was playing his ninth T20 World Cup, when compared to his sixth, deserved the honour more.
