In the final of Major League Cricket 2023, MI New York (MINY) skipper Nicholas Pooran (not out on 137 off just 55 balls) smashed an incredible century off just 40 balls against the Seatle Orcas (SOR) in Dallas on Sunday, July 30. His magnificent knock consisted of 10 fours and 13 sixes. The West Indian, who has been in excellent form all season, surpassed Quinton de Kock to finish as the tournament's top run-scorer. It was Pooran’s performance that led his team to ultimate victory, making it as the second highest run-chase of the season. His century innings in inaugural MLC final will undoubtedly be remembered by cricket enthusiasts for a long time.
When given a run chase of 184 to win, Pooran took off right away. He started off by hitting Imad Wasim for a couple of sixes in the opening over of the innings.
The 27-year-old then put the SOR bowlers to task with some of the most courageous stroke play in T20 history. He was very harsh on Dwaine Pretorius of South Africa, pounding him for 26 runs off his first five deliveries.
The southpaw recorded the fastest half-century in MLC 2023 which was just in 16 deliveries. After seeing his performance, fans were left in a state of shock, and referred to his knock as the greatest in T20 format.
