In what comes as a big update from the Indian domestic cricket circuit, a major Indian domestic first-class cricket competition will now be played at Lucknow's Ekana Cricket Stadium. The tournament happens to be Irani Cup 2024 which was originally scheduled to happen in Mumbai but will now be played at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in the Uttar Pradesh capital.



The same has been confirmed in a report carried by Times Of India (TOI) which claims that the Irani Cup match will be played from October 1-5 in Lucknow. The fixture will be played between the Ranji Trophy 2024-winning team which happens to be Mumbai and Rest Of India.

Why Has Mumbai vs Rest Of India Been Shifted From Mumbai?


From what is being learnt so far, the Mumbai vs Rest Of India  Irani Cup 2024 match has been shifted from Mumbai because of the monsoon. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not want the match any hindrance in this match which is the reason it has been moved out of the historic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.


Which Teams Feature In The Irani Cup Match?


Notably, the Irani Cup match is played between the Ranji Trophy-winning side and the Rest Of India side. With the Ajinkya Rahane-led Mumbai winning the Ranji Trophy earlier this year, they will play Rest Of India in this match. The Irani Cup was first played in 1960 between Bombay and Rest Of India.

So far, a total of 59 Irani Cup matches have been played. While 26 matches have been won by the Rest of India side, 25 times the side that won the Ranji Trophy ended up on the winning side. 8 matches ended without a result.
