Dubai Giants continued their impressive streak in the ongoing Legends Cricket Trophy (LCT) with a commanding 56-run victory over Kandy Samp Army at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy on March 15 (Friday).

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Dubai Giants faced an early setback with opener Richard Levi departing for mere six runs. However, Shaun Marsh showcased exemplary batting, smashing 53 off just 27 balls, including eight fours and two sixes, leading the charge. Saurabh Tiwary also made a significant contribution with a quickfire 47 off 20 balls, featuring seven fours and two sixes, while captain Thisara Perera added a brisk 28 off 11 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes.

Dubai Giants set a massive total of 190/7 in their allotted 90 balls, the highest-ever score achieved by a team in LCT 2024. Kandy Samp Army's bowlers struggled to contain the runs, with Tino Best claiming three wickets for 40 runs and Chris Mpofu taking two wickets for 38 runs.

Too Many Runs On The Board For Kandy Samp Army

In response, Kandy Samp Army got off to a flying start with Kevin O'Brien and Aaron Finch forming a rapid 67-run opening partnership before Finch was dismissed for 20. O'Brien was the standout performer, scoring 52 off 24 balls, including two fours and six sixes. However, Kandy Samp Army faltered after O'Brien's dismissal, losing wickets at regular intervals and ultimately finishing at 134/8, falling short by 56 runs.

Following their latest win, Dubai Giants have catapulted to the top of the LCT 2024 points table with 8 points, accompanied by a commendable Net Run Rate (NRR) of 1.22. Meanwhile, Kandy Samp Army currently stand in fifth place on the table, having four points from four matches, alongside a NRR of -1.17.

In the standings immediately following Dubai Giants, the Rajasthan Kings, New York Superstar Strikers and Punjab Royals secure the subsequent three spots on the LCT 2024 points table.

In the next fixture of the Legends Cricket Trophy 2024, Rajasthan Kings will take on the New York Superstar Strikers on March 16.
